The Thirst Project
The Thirst Project is a movement where High School and College students raise money to bring solutions to the clean water crisis. These students started to do this since the summer of 2007. Millions of people on this planet don’t have access to clean, fresh water. 80% of diseases come from drinking contaminated water. This kills more than 2 million people a year. In places that don’t have clean water, women walk about 4 miles to get to water source. But this is not no normal water source, it’s a giant hole in the ground that picks up water when it rains. It remains still for months. Could you imagine how many parasites and diseases could be in there by now? Young girls have to collect water, leaving them no energy or time to get and education to succeed in life. People in places like Uganda and Kenya are dying every second.
Fresh water is the answer to this problem. When there is fresh water 88% percent of all diseases drop nearly overnight. 99% of child mortality drops almost overnight. Do you see how amazing fresh water can make a difference? To get fresh water into places like Uganda and Kenya could take to $7,800 to $20,000. If everyone donated 1 dollar to The Thirst Project foundation we would save the lives of millions. One dollar, one dollar is the difference between life or death. How amazing would it be to know that you were apart of saving millions of lives? One dollar could mean nothing to you but to others it means everything. You are not just saving the lives of the people in Uganda and Kenya but you are saving the lives of the next generation, and the next, and the next. Who knows how many live would be saved.
Looking at how bad other peoples lives are, I am very grateful of my life. I am going to be donating one dollar to The Thirst Project foundation and hoping that lives are being saved. Uganda and Kenya are not the only places that we should be worried about. Even places where there is clean water, many people are not a watching what they are drinking. In California, people are wasting water by leaving the faucet on, pools, and long showers. We are in a drought; we need to act now before we end up with no clean water too. In my house we are putting filters in our faucets so that we know our water is safe ad clean. We are shortening our shower period and not turning on the faucet when not being used. Hopefully others do the same. All I am saying is that you should donate. Their lives are just as valuable as ours. How would you feel if you were in their position.
